PYC featured in Alternative Building Blog

Pilar Yacht Club is featured in a delightful blog about artful buildings. Here is a quote by the authors about their interest area. "Welcome .... to this blog on alternative building which will cover topics such as earthen and traditional building, passive solar energy, energy conservation, owner builder issues, tiling, stone masonry, woodworking, gardening, landscaping and the trades in general, not to mention the odd and the unusual. "
Click on the link to see their post and the pictures!

The authors did not know the identity of the artist of our murals. She lives locally and goes only by the name of "Robin." She has also painted the widely viewed mural of prancing horses on Ledoux street in Taos (see photo).

Pilar Rattler!

These are photos of a large fat rattlesnake that Suzy Furlan of Pilar found in her yard, which is in the flood plain of the Rio Grande. You can see she slid a yard stick next to him; so you get an idea of the length and girth. Thank you Suzy for the photos and remember to keep an eye out for snakes when recreating by the river!

Tyler Martin, PYC's own is pictured in the SF New Mexican

Santa Fe New Mexican published an article today about the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph project. Pilar Yacht Club friendly teenage employee, Tyler Martin, is in the photograph on page C-6. Unfortunately I could not copy the photo for the blog. She took part this summer in the two week project which takes students to hunt and record petroglyphs in the Black Mesa area (or Mesa Prieta, 35 miles north of Santa Fe). The program was honored to receive the Take Pride in America Award of 2011 by the US Dpt of the Interior. Notable quote from the article: "We were , in many instances, the first eyes that had looked at these beautiful petroglyphs for hundreds of years, maybe longer," said Paul Williams, a BLM archaeologist."See the full article at this link: http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Leisure/Program-honored-for-helping-kids-discover-thousands-of-petrogly

New River Tube shipment arrived

Just in is a brand new shipment of inner tubes!!!
The River Run 1 features mesh bottom for comfortable support, built in backrest, 2 heavy duty handles and a grab rope, 2 cup holders (so important!), and repair patch (for emergencies).
This tube is extraordinarily comfortable, roomy, and sturdy. 53 in diameter! A total deal at retail $28.99.

The Rollin River tube is a no nonsense heavy guage 2 chamber river floatin tube that will bring HOURS of FAMILY FUN (heard that one before?) This time its true! 42 in diameter with two molded handles. Somewhat more economical at $21.99!

Don't miss the bliss! The water level is right! Pick up some tubes at the Pilar Yacht Club (575-758-9072) and have an enjoyable day on the river!!

est. 300-400 lb Bear spotted

A large 300-400 lb (by Tommy's estimation) brown colored black bear has been spotted frequenting the Pilar dump. Signs of his visitations have been observed for some time now. Be advised and if you live in the area be sure to lock up your trash!

PS. this is not an actual photo of the bear--just a sample pic of a brown colored black bear!

Bear shot in Rinconada

The bear that was killing goats and raiding coolers in the
Rinconada area was shot Saturday night trying to break in
to a home. The game department hauled it off this morning.
About 400 pounds. He may or may not be the same as the
one sighted it Dixon so people there might keep their guard up.
